Registering a home-made trailer in MA
I bought a home-made trailer over the weekend, it's a very accurate copy of a Kendon from the late 1990s. However, the previous owner doesn't have any prior registration for it -- the only thing I have is a Bill of Sale.
How do I go about getting this thing registered? I emailed my insurance guy at Liberty Mutual to ask him about getting an RMV1, however I've read some horror stories online (which I probably should've checked out before I bought it...) when it comes to registering a trailer that you can't prove has been previously registered in the People's Commonwealth.
Thoughts? It's obviously below 3,000lbs so it doesn't need a title. The other thing I've thought about is the place in Scarborough, ME that will register an out-of-state trailer in Maine for you as they're a certified agent.

Seeing as that's what I did, how do I register it? Some of the horror stories include the RMV asking people for receipts of the parts that they used to build it which I can't supply, because I had all this shit lying around my house already.

Is there a VIN on the frame anywhere? I reg'd my Harbor Freight trailer as homemade and wound up finding a VIN later.

Registering a home-made trailer in MA
It's a PITA. I had to have a friend register mine in NH for me. Once he got a plate, I "bought" it from him and registered it in MA.

I registered my used, home-built trailer this morning. It was actually pretty easy, $76.25 later and I had a new license plate for it with very few questions asked!

Maine will register a trailer for up to five years, I believe. That's one reason why you see so many long-haul trucks with Maine plates.

I registered a home built trailer several years ago in MA. There were no problems, and I don't think it was over $50.

Re: Registering a home-made trailer in MA
Where do you guys go locally for trailer tires? The tires on the Kendon are pretty old and need replacing, right now they're 13" radials. I've tried Town Fair Tire and Sullivan Tire, and they both had nothing in 13" at all.
The other option is Amazon or some other online trailer parts site, but I'd rather not wait around for shipping...

West Marine in Woburn may have them. Doesn't WalMart have them as well?
Edit: West Marine in Woburn has 12 and 13" wheels with tires but I did not see any tires alone.

Re: Registering a home-made trailer in MA
I ended up getting 13" Carlisle radials for ~$53 ea at Ken Jones Tires in Worcester. They couldn't mount them that day, so I had them mounted at Tom Lyon's in Waltham for $10 each.
When removing the old wheels from the trailer, I actually ended up pulling out several of the wheel studs trying to get the lug nuts loose
